About Kate Mas

A career built on wrong turns

Four countries. Five languages. Two unicorns. And a pivot nobody saw coming. My career has never gone to plan — and that's exactly why I'm good at this.

Kate Mas
1992 🇺🇦 Ukraine

The beginning

Born in Poltava, in the aftermath of the Soviet Union's collapse. Not exactly a stable start — which turned out to be pretty good training for everything that followed.

2004 🇨🇾 Cyprus

First big move

Age 12. Left everyone I knew to join my mom in a new country. New language, new school, new life. It was hard — and it taught me I could handle hard things.

2012 🇮🇹 Italy

Chasing curiosity and pizza

Moved to Italy at 18 to study Communication. Learned a fourth language. Paid my own way. Right before graduation, planned to return to Ukraine and leverage my international experiences — which I actually stuck to.

2017 🇺🇦 Kyiv

Startup mode

Joined Preply when it was 40 people. Watched it grow through multiple funding rounds. Went from early hire to leading the copywriting department. Five years of building something from scratch.

2022 🇫🇷 Paris

The Parisian life

Right as Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, an offer arrived from a French unicorn — unicorn #2. Leadership role in one of the biggest fintechs in France. Relocated to Paris, learned French to B2, and built a life there. It was good. It just wasn't quite enough.

2023 📚 ICF ACC

The big pivot

Always wanted to try coaching. Enrolled at the coaching school, earned my ICF certification, and coached 120 clients before getting ACC accredited. Felt like my passion for people could finally be more than just a footnote in my job description.

2024 ✨ Now

Full-time career coach

Walked away from the title and the salary to do the work I actually care about. Helping people untangle their careers, find what drives them, and move forward — no matter how messy their story is. My curiosity for humans doesn't stop there: I'm in my 2nd year of training to become a Gestalt Therapist, and starting a BA in Psychology in 2027.

What I believe

The stuff that shapes me

01

Ultimate liminality

I'm always in between and never quite where I'm meant to be. Four countries, multiple careers, a life lived in transition. I've stopped waiting to arrive — this is it.

02

Always moving, always learning

Stagnation is the one thing I genuinely can't do. New language, new field, new country — if there's something to understand, I want to understand it. That curiosity is what I bring into every session.

03

Challenge over comfort

Every big move I've made was the harder choice. I'll always choose it. And I'll help you figure out if you will too — because not everyone should, and knowing the difference matters.

04

Messy is not a flaw

The pivot, the detour, the wrong turn — these aren't failures. They're data. Your zigzag path is probably your biggest asset.

05

Clarity before action

Most people don't need to work harder. They need to get clear on what they actually want — and that's harder than it sounds, which is why I'm here.

06

You already know

I don't give you the answers. I help you find the ones you've been sitting on. The insight is yours — I just ask the right questions.
